AB - On the occasion of an interesting and significant anniversary, the Jewish Digital Library (JDB) has posted three texts that represent excerpts from two issues of the Sarajevo Jewish weekly newspaper “Jevrejski Glas”, published on March 23 and 30, 1928. Namely, in March this year, 95 years have passed since the events that were mentioned and described in detail in that and other newspapers. The Zionist leader and president of the Executive Zionist Organization, Mr. Nahum Sokolov, in March 1928 visited Belgrade, Sarajevo and Zagreb. It was his official visit to the Kingdom of Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, during which he stayed in Belgrade from March 9, in Sarajevo from March 14 and in Zagreb from March 18. The meetings he had on that occasion speak of the significance that this visit caused, primarily among the Jewish communities of the mentioned cities, but also his meetings with local city officials and especially state, political and even military representatives of the Kingdom of Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia.

AB - As part of the "Zoom Shabbat" activity, organized by the Jewish Community of Belgrade and the technical support of Raka-Rahamim Levi, on September 29, 2023, the guest and lecturer was Aron Albahari. The topic of the lecture was "Jews and Christianity - Between Catechism and older brothers". The author gave two extremely different views and representations of Jews. One given in the Catechism, the second most important theological book of Christianity (both Catholic and Orthodox) where they are presented as " Godslayers". The second is the speech of Pope John Paul II during his visit to the Great Central Synagogue in Rome, where he called the Jews "elder brothers". In the second part, the author follows the history of the origin of Christianity from the Jewish corpus and heritage, through the accounts of those figures of early Christianity who were responsible for the spread of Christianity, and who were Jews - Jesus (Joshua), John (Johanan) the Baptist, Saint Peter (Shimon ben Jonah), Saint Paul (Saul), Twelve Apostles, 72 Little Apostles, Evangelists John (Johanan), Matthew (Matthias) and Mark (Markus), 15 first Jerusalem bishops (bishops), 7 first Jerusalem deacons, 4 Roman popes - Peter (Shimon), Clement I of Rome, Evarist and Anacletus II Pietro (Peter) Pierleoni.

Kanaan - Erec Izrael - Judeja - Palestina - Izrael

Albahari, Aron

(Beograd : Aron Albahari, 2023)

TY - BOOK
AU - Albahari, Aron
PY - 2023
UR - https://www.jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/2418
AB - This book chronologically follows the history of the geographical area of today's Israel and Palestine, with special reference to the names by which that area was called and named over a period of 4 thousand years. Those names were determined both geographically and religiously, but also by the political-historical circumstances of that time: Promised Land - Canaan - Eretz Israel - Judea - Holy Land - Palestine - Zion - Israel. In the first part of the book, brief and interesting historical data are presented, as well as the sources and origins of each of the names that were used to define and name this area at that time. But the largest part of the book is devoted to the period when it was called Palestine. What is especially rich in that part of the book is a large number of interesting and lesser-known information, data and facts that tell us about the extraordinary connection and connection between Jews and Palestine, both in the physical sense of life, and in the language-linguistic sense, when since 9 century, and especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, that is, long before the restoration of the state of Israel in 1948, that term and the name 'Palestine' was an integral part and determinant of about 70 Jewish economic, social, cultural, banking, newspaper and numerous other institutions, organizations and associations. Through the rich history of their creation and the presented extremely interesting data about each of them, the reader follows the history of the struggle and commitment of the Jews to rebuild their national and political identity and home in their (ancestral) homeland Palestine / Eretz Israel /. With short but richly informative texts, this is also a story about the history of the creation of Israel. More of the interesting information presented in the book tells us about the presence and connection of Jews from the then Kingdom of Yugoslavia in Palestine and gives a lot of information about related interesting events before the Second World War. Special mention was also made of the planting of forests in Palestine in memory of King Peter I Karađorđević and King Aleksandar I Karađorđević. In a special chapter of the book, intriguing interesting thoughts, observations and data are given about the attitude and commentary of the Arabs themselves regarding the name 'Palestine', as well as their attitude towards that name. In the part of the book entitled - The Holy Land - data and illustrations are given about the religious holy places of Judaism, Christianity and Islam in the Holy Land and their importance for each of these religions.

U delu knjige pod naslovom - Sveta zemlja - dati su podaci i slikovni prikazi koji govore o verskim svetim mestima judaizma, hrićanstva i islama u Svetoj zemlji i njihovom značaju za svaku od ovih religija., This book chronologically follows the history of the geographical area of today's Israel and Palestine, with special reference to the names by which that area was called and named over a period of 4 thousand years. TY - BOOK
AU - Albahari, Aron
PY - 2020
UR - https://www.jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/1644
AB - The book is a voluminous study (330 pages) that follows the history of the presence and life of Jews and Jewish tribes in pre-Islamic Arabia in the 5th, 6th and 7th centuries, the appearance and teachings of Hazreti Muhammad, and his religious, ideological, political and military contacts and relations with the Jews of Medina (Yathrib), Kaibar, Fadak, Kamusa, Wadi al-Qura, Tema. A part of the book is dedicated to the complete content of the Qur'an text, citing and quoting all parts of the text in the Qur'an which refer to the Jews. And that is 29 percent of the total content and text of the Qur’an. Through the chapters in the book that talk about the Arabs, Muhammad, the Qur'an, Islam, etc... the book introduces us to mutual historical contacts, relations, influences, interconnections, but also the opposites of Jews and Arabs, as well as their religious teachings expressed in Judaism (and Christianity) and Islam. A particularly interesting part is an introduction with characters of common prophets and angels in Judaism (and Christianity) and Islam. Very interesting, and certainly less known, are the fact that out of a total of 25 prophets in Islam mentioned in the Qur'an, 22 of them are taken from the Jewish and Christian Bible and biblical history, and 15 of them are Jews! Each of them, as well as the angels mentioned in the Qur'an, is given a special description and explanation. An important fact, certainly is, that most of the authors and data sources used in the content of this book are Arabic, Persian, Indian, Pakistani, Turkish ... so primarily Muslim-Islamic authors, historians, writers, and theologians. The foreword to the book was written by Muharem Bazdulj.

AB - Knjiga "Jevreji u Srbiji i Beogradu : hronika jednog prisustva kroz dokumente srpskih vladara, putopise stranaca i službene protokole" hronološki beleži istorijske činjenice o prisustvu i životu Jevreja u Srbiji i Beogradu.
AB - The book "Jews in Serbia and Belgrade: a chronicle of a presence through documents of Serbian rulers, travelogues of foreigners and official protocols" chronologically records historical facts about the presence and life of Jews in Serbia and Belgrade. Through the presentation of a large amount of relevant information, the book referred researchers, scientific and academic community, chroniclers, and historians to sources that are in public documents, regulations of Serbian rulers, but also numerous travelogues of foreign diplomats and historians who noted the presence of Jews in this area. Except in the part where these data refer to Jews, these travelogues and records are certainly interesting for the general history of Serbia and Belgrade. This chronology gives respect to one small community, but it also preserves the memory of the dynamic and rich history of the Jewish people in Serbia. This chronology helps to maintain the memory of the presence and life of a valuable, activity and spiritually rich community - the Jews of Serbia, who for centuries searched for and found their place - materially and spiritually, secularly and religiously, in Belgrade, Šumadija, Kosovo, Srem, Banat, BaČka ... today's Serbia!

AB - This paper is dedicated to the Jews of Kruševac through a review of general historical and political circumstances that dictated their status and right to live and work in cities and towns in the interior of Serbia during the Obrenović dynasty and after, until the Second World War. The paper also describes the destinies of Jewish families and individuals, who either lived in Kruševac or for some time, carried by certain life and business destinies, lived in this city, primarily in the time between the two world wars. Unfortunately, a good part of the descriptions given here and individual and family destinies are dedicated to their suffering during the Second World War. A particularly interesting part of the book refers to the descriptions of the circumstances that led some Jews in the area in the middle of the 19th century to convert to Orthodoxy, in order to preserve the possibility to stay and live in the cities of central and southern Serbia, and that they may have the right to work in them, and ownership of real estate - their houses, shops, workshops. The information that tells us about their attempt to preserve the connection with their Jewish religious and even national roots, and how it all reflected on their lives, is interesting.

AB - This contribution is about the atmosphere on the occasion of the promotion of the book "Nisim Albahari - a tragic revolutionary" by Amir Brka, which was promoted on May 24, 2018, in Tešanj (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The author of the text introduces us to the content of the book, which, in addition to the character and significance of this BiH revolutionary, also talks about the history and circumstances of the Jewish life, and especially about some Jewish families in this city of Central Bosnia. Presenting the chronology of personal contact with the author of the book, the text is especially dedicated to the actors and the atmosphere of the promotion, but also and how it symbolically "restored" the spirit and memory of the former life and presence of Jews in Tešanj. Special attention is given to the more Albahari family members, whose descendant is also the author of this article.

AB - Povodom proslave posvećene 700-toj godišnjici nastanka Otomanske imperije, objavljena je i knjiga turskog istoričara i pisca Ali Kemala Merama "Majke sultana" ("Padišah Analari").

The book is dedicated to lesser-known details and historical events from the era of the rule of all Turkish sultans, starting from the first - Osman I, after whom the Empire was named, to the last - Vahdetin Sultan (Mehmed VI). The book especially emphasizes the fact that none of the mothers of the Turkish sultans was Turkish, nor was born as a Muslim. This paper describes five of them, who were of Jewish origin.

AB - This work was initiated by a campaign called "Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions" (BDS), which has aimed on the international isolation of Israel for the past ten years. The campaign, under the cover of criticism about Israel for the reported implementation of Apartheid against the Palestinians, calls all international entities, individuals and institutions to boycott Israel politically, culturally, sports, academically and economically. In the introductory part especially is given the list of numerous cases about a boycott of Israel by individuals, groups and institutions for their participation in Israel, but also at international gatherings in the world where individuals, groups or institutions from Israel participate. However, there are also cases of those public figures or groups who refused to participate in the boycott of Israel. The history of the political, social, public and every other position and status of the Arab-Palestinians in Israel since 1948 is especially given, with reference to their legal-political status as a national minority in Israel. Most of the work deals with individual personal biographies of Arabs-Palestinians and Druze in Israel, who performs important functions and role in the Israeli public, political, cultural, sports, economic and finally military life and engagement in Israeli society, with the key question - Do is it apartheid!?! In the summary of the paper, especially is an interesting comment from the pen of a former member of the extreme Islamic movement, Muhammad Mahbub Hussein, now a peace activist and senior associate for the Middle East studies at the Foreign Affairs Council in an organization specializing in American foreign policy and international relations.
