Personalizacija žrtve kao didaktička strategija obrazovanјa o Holokaustu

Rad takođe tematizuje i pojam preživele žrtve. Nјih valјa staviti u istorijski kontekst Drugog svetskog rata, uz korišćenje istoriografskih podataka i uvida istorijske nauke.
AB - The paper deals with an important aspect of the pedagogical philosophy of the International School for Holocaust Studies ‘Yad Vashem’: placing the individual at the center of the comprehension of history. We do not speak of victims in terms of numbers but give them names and faces, read the letters from the concentration camps, the diaries, and authentic testimonies, and learn about the victims as human beings. This path differs from the previous approach to teaching, which was mainly limited to the chronology of historical, political, and military events, interspersed with occasional descriptions and brief explanations of the phenomena of mass murders and Nazi policies, accompanied by death statistics. This approach is fundamentally opposed to presenting numbers exclusively and to reducing victims to statistical data. Numbers alone cannot foster identification or empathy, which is essential when it comes to learning about the Holocaust: the educational goals in this regard can only be achieved through connecting cognitive and emotional levels of learning. The paper emphasizes the importance of reconstructing the identities, faces, and lives of the victims, which is in direct contrast to the Nazi perception of Jews, where the victim was depersonalized, dehumanized, incinerated, missing, and forgotten. It also highlights the significance of the concept of survivor victims because without the testimonies of the survivors, teaching about the Holocaust would expose students to nothing but tragedy and death. However, personal stories, portraits, and memories are just the necessary first step in the process of learning and it is not sufficient to rely solely on them. In this paper, we emphasize the importance of combining facts and data with personal stories, which, with the help of historiographical information and insights from historical science, are placed in the context of World War II. Finally, attention is drawn to the Holocaust victims belonging to other suffering groups, which also helps understand the full scope of the tragedy of World War II, as well as the dangers threatening our present and the future.

AB - This article has a twofold aim: historical and practical. First, it conducts a brief historical review of the Jewish community in Serbia, addressing the ways in which this community has contributed to the country’s culture, history, sciences, politics, and social life. It focuses especially on Jewish life in Serbia after the Holocaust, and the various difficulties of assimilation and emigration. Second, the essay investigates the practical realities of interculturalism in Serbia, weighing these realities against concerns about preserving Jewish identity. The article stems from three interviews: Stefan Sablić, theatre director, musician, and founder of Shira U’tfila; Sonja Viličić, activist and founder/director of NGO Haver Serbia; Dragana Stojanović, anthropologist and scholar of cultural studies. Taken together, the responses of these speakers offer novel approaches to multiculturalism and intercultural dialogue in an area with a complex history and cultural makeup.
Članak potiče iz tri intervjua: Stefan Sablić, pozorišni reditelj, muzičar i osnivač Shira U'tfila; Sonja Viličić, aktivistkinja i osnivač/direktor NVO Haver Srbija; Dragana Stojanović, naučni istraživač antropolog i kulturolog.

Pronacistički i antisemitski Posteri, dati u paru, olaksaće razumevanje teme "nacisticka ideologija" ("Uvod", Nada Banjanin Đuričić).
AB - This publication was created through the learning process of professors and students of the Railway Technical School in Belgrade for six years, in the period from 2011 to 2016. Teaching about the Holocaust was realized in the classes of sociology, constitution and citizens' rights, civic education and, in part, English language, through various teaching and extracurricular activities. For teachers who recognize themselves on the same humane and demanding task, this publication, through 13 selected topics, offers one possible model, encourages and/or inspires with a fullness of carefully selected content. It does not have the ambition to be a classic textbook (although it is good to have it on hand): that is why we left out the curricula for each individual teaching unit (except for two: "Jews in Serbia" and "Nazi ideology", for which, as it turned out, there is a great need). In fact, we avoided even defining “units,” consciously offering only topics and leaving teachers free to dedicate one or more classes to them, to fit them into their curricula in a way that suits them best. It can therefore be a possible model, an impulse, a given form - no. This book is a drop in the ocean and is not a book about the Holocaust. This is a publication about the educational process of the Holocaust. The title "What you do is important" indicates the importance and far-reaching nature of what we, as teachers, do in the classroom or outside of it while learning with students. It is intended for more experienced teachers of humanities who practice interactive teaching, apply various techniques of active learning and critical thinking and have a desire to teach about the Holocaust. The first part of the publication, such as the "case study", presents the activities realized before, during and after classes. By the image and by the word are shown extracurricular activities through which we getting to know with the life and culture of Jews in Serbia both before the Holocaust and today. In a similar way, the initiative and activism of students after the topics were documented. The first part gives the main topics of the educational process that leads us, starting from basic texts on Judaism, through difficult topics: from life in ghettos and camps, through stories about victims, criminals, observers, rescuers, to liberation, final lessons on the importance and the significance of the Holocaust, the culture of remembrance, and teaching in places of suffering, which is dedicated to the former camp at the Staro sajmište (Old Fairgrounds). A model of marking Holocaust Remembrance Day was offered as a special topic. The second part of the publication, conceived as a small textbook, is a supplement to the first part and contains "records" (textual and pictorial, as the core of the teachings on the Holocaust). The "Short Glossary of the Holocaust" and teaching materials in English for bilingual teaching are attached. Additional teaching material - Postcards "Jews in Serbia" - can help to get acquainted with the Jewish tradition, culture and life of Jews in Serbia before the Holocaust, after or instead of field research tours. Pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic Posters, given in pairs, will facilitate understanding of the topic "Nazi ideology" ("Introduction", Nada Banjanin Đuričić).

AB - Although short, my stay in Israel represents one of the most significant experiences in my professional development. The trip was carefully planned, thought out to the smallest details, and the schedule of activities was so condensed and comprehensive - that even listing everything I saw and learned would pose a certain problem. Looking at the agenda and reviewing photos and notes proved to be necessary for me to remember everything. The choice of places to visit and the choice of people to talk to was extremely good and carefully planned. That choice enabled me to see a society and a different culture from several different aspects, both in the cultural, religious, cultural-historical, social, urban, political, and legal sense - as well as in the professional, pedagogic-didactic and humanistic sense, which I mean to represent the very essence and purpose of our visit. What is it that I brought as a message, as an essence, as a tradition? Life above all, life as the highest value; human dignity and culture of memory!

AB - The development project “Razvionica” (Support for the development of human capital and research - General education and development of human capital, IPA 2011) was developed as additional support to schools and teachers for the most successful and practical implementation of the "National Curriculum Framework - Basics of Learning and Teaching in Daily Teaching Practice and school life". One of the examples of good practice resulting from this project is the guidelines "7 lessons on the Holocaust" realized at the Railway Technical School in Belgrade. The aim was to acquaint students with the topic of the Holocaust and a deeper analysis of the terms ghetto, anti-Semitism, totalitarianism, genocide, the "final solution," Nazism, the Holocaust, then to understand the broader historical context, promote the humanistic principle and universal values, and develop empathy. Seven lessons on the topic of the Holocaust were conceived and implemented. The classes are designed to create the topic from the individual to the general, from the personal to the universal. The order of the lessons is important and allows the students to be gradually introduced to the topic of the Holocaust. It begins with getting to know the culture, customs and religion of the Jews. After that, through getting to know personal stories and tragic destinies, using testimonies and documents from relevant and reliable sources, the aim is to understand the wider historical context, to reach humanistic principles and universal values, and to arouse empathy. In the classes, the emphasis is placed on experiencing and understanding (carefully selected) authentic testimonies, explaining and understanding key concepts (which are mentioned in the testimonies and are easier to understand through that context), as well as turning the past into its end, using different research techniques. Students conducted research in the field, online research, read and retold short life stories and testimonies, prepared presentations, demonstrated prepared material, wrote short texts, talked, discussed, and asked questions...
