Kratka istorija jevrejskog naroda

Abstract

Još je u Kraljevini Jugoslaviji u vremenu između dva Svetska rata postojala potreba za objavljivanjem knjige na srpskohrvatskom jeziku koja bi sažetim ali kompletnim prikazom duge istorije Jevreja zadovoljila potrebe kako jevrejske populacije u zemlji, tako i interesovanje nejevrejske publike. Savez jevrejskih opština Jugoslavije se zato 1962. godine odlučuje za prevod knjige jevrejsko-ruskog autora, istoričara i publiciste Simona Dubnova. „Kratka istorija jevrejskog naroda“ ovog autora pokazala se kao najpodesnije štivo za predstavljanje istorije Jevreja kod nas, na srpskohrvatskom jeziku. Knjiga sažeto govori o tzv. Istočnom periodu koji obuhvata vreme od praoca Avrama i dolaska u Kanaan, Egipatsko ropstvo, vreme kraljeva Saula, Davida, Solomona i gradnje jevrejskog Hrama u Jerusalimu, podelu kraljevstva, Vavilonsko ropstvo i povrat u Cion, grčku vladavinu, pobunu i kraljevstvo Hašmonejaca, rimsko osvajanje Judeje i rušenje Hrama, vreme Gaona i arapskog osvajanja Palestine. Drugi deo, tzv. Zapadni period govori o vremenu izgona Jevreja iz Judeje u Evropu, severnu Afriku, o životu i procvatu jevrejske kulture u Španiji, izgonu iz Španije, te životu Jevreja u brojnim zemljama Evrope: Francuskoj, Engleskoj, Nemačkoj, Poljskoj, Rusiji, Turskoj. Taj period obuhvata i vreme narastanja antisemitizma, progona i konačno ogromnog stradanja u Drugom svetskom ratu. Sa posebnim osvrtom u knjizi se govori i o Balfurovoj deklaraciji, borbi za povratak u Palestinu i konačno o obnovi jevrejske države u svojoj domovini - Izraelu. Knjiga se završava sa veoma kratkim osvrtom na vreme i okolnosti dolaska Jevreja na prostor Jugoslavije, njihov broj i razmeštaj po gradovima, osnovnim podacima o obimu stradanja tokom Drugog svetskog rata, te organizovanja zajednice koja ostaje u zemlji, kao i onih koji iseljavaju u Izrael.

In the time of Kingdom of Yugoslavia between the two World Wars, there was a need to publish a book in the Serbo-Croatian language that would satisfy the needs of both the Jewish population in the country and the interest of non-Jewish audiences with a concise and complete description of the long history of Jews. Therefore, in 1962, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia decided to translate the book by the Jewish-Russian author, historian and publicist Simon Dubnov. The author's "Short History of the Jewish People" proved to be the most suitable reading for presenting the history of the Jews in our country, in the Serbo-Croatian language. The book briefly talks about the so-called The Eastern period, which includes the time from the ancestor Abraham and the arrival in Canaan, Egyptian slavery, the time of kings Saul, David, Solomon and the construction of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem, the division of the kingdom, Babylonian captivity and return to Zion, Greek rule, rebellion and the Hasmonean kingdom, Roman Judea and the destruction of the Temple, the time of Gaon and the Arab conquest of Palestine. The second part, the so-called The Western period speaks of the time of the expulsion of Jews from Judea to Europe, North Africa, the life and flourishing of Jewish culture in Spain, expulsion from Spain, and the life of Jews in many European countries: France, England, Germany, Poland, Russia, Turkey. This period includes a time of growing anti-Semitism, persecution and finally huge suffering in the Second World War. The book also talks with special reference about the Balfour Declaration, the struggle to return to Palestine and finally about the renewal of the Jewish state in its homeland - Israel. The book ends with a very brief review of the time and circumstances of the arrival of Jews in Yugoslavia, their number and distribution in cities, basic data on suffering during World War II, and the organization of the community that remains in the country and those who emigrated to Israel.
