Nauka, pogotovo istorijska, još uvek, i u zadnje vreme sve više, istražuje Holokaust i pokušava da objasni ovaj i dalјe neobjašnjiv fenomen. Rezultati ovih napora nimalo nisu zanemarlјivi. Pisci poput Josifa Flavija u "Judejskim ratovima", te mnogobrojni drugi potom koji su pisali na tragu uništenja Prvog i Drugog jevrejskog hrama, rasejanja, inkvizicije, progona iz Španije i Portugala, stvaranje geta, Holokausta, i inkarnacija antisemitizma i diskriminacije, kao hroničari svog vremena oslikavali su velike istorijske događaje i, istovremeno, na istorijskim činjenicama gradili epske opise, lјudske karaktere, individualne i nacionalne sudbine, oplemenjujući ih još i svojim komentarima i filozofskim porukama. Sve to učinilo je da njihova dela budu univerzalno prihvaćena i da, pored istorijskog, imaju nesporni umetnički i književni značaj.sr
Science, especially historical science, is still, and lately more and more, researching the Holocaust and trying to explain this still inexplicable phenomenon. The results of these efforts are by no means negligible. But dealing with historical facts cannot fully portray all the horrors faced, mostly by Jews, in that perhaps worst period of civilization. That is why literature, and not only that which directly refers to the Holocaust and its far-reaching consequences, but also to all the earlier destructive events retained in the Jewish experience, is unbreakably linked with history, archaeology and archival science. Writers like Josephus in “The Judean Wars”, and many others who wrote in the wake of the destruction of the First and Second Jewish Temples, the dispersion, the Inquisition, the persecution of Spain and Portugal, the creation of the ghetto, the Holocaust, and the incarnation of anti-Semitism and discrimination, portrayed great historical events they built epic descriptions, human characters, individual and national destinies with facts, enriching them with their comments and philosophical messages. All this made their works universally accepted and, in addition to historical, have undeniable artistic and literary significance.
