On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the poet, Zionist, patriot and heroine of Israel Hannah Szenes (1921-1944), Davor Salom tells us about her life. Born in Hungary, since 1939 living in Palestine in a kibbutz, as a young girl during the Second World War she enlisted in the anti-Nazi resistance, through training as a paratrooper. In a special mission trained by the British army, in March 1944, she parachuted down into the free territory of Yugoslavia. The aim of her mission was to help Allied pilots, European Jews and the anti-Nazi resistance. On her way to Hungary, in October 1944, she was caught by the Germans and killed very quickly. After the war, her remains were transferred from Budapest to Israel, where she was buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, as a national hero.
