Esperansa: Jevrejski sefardski studentski klub u Zagrebu
Esperanza - the Jewish sefardic student club in Zagreb
Abstract
Posle Prvog svetskog rata oni se vraćaju i postaju predvodnici društvenog, kulturnog i političkog života sefardskih Jevreja u Bosni i Hercegovini.
The first generation of Sephardic intellectuals from Bosnia and Herzegovina studied in Vienna before World War I and during the war. That first generation of Jewish students from Bosnia hoped that Sephardic life in Bosnia and Herzegovina would also be lifted from patriarchy and that it would lead its community from the backward in two directions: towards modernization and to activate in the fight to recognize full equality for Jews with other nations already waged in the world. These young men also set these goals for their society, which they founded in Vienna under the name "Esperance" (in Spanish means hope). After the First World War, they returned and became the leaders of the social, cultural and political life of Sephardic Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
